Profiles with metallic reinforcement (PIRELI)
Profiles with metal reinforcement – often referred to as PIRELI profiles – are sealing or protective rubber profiles into which a metal reinforcement, most often made of steel wire or perforated metal tape, is inserted during manufacture.
This type of profile is used where the gasket needs to hold firmly on the edge, have dimensional stability and not slip.
What is PIRELI?
The term “PIRELI” is used in practice as a technical term for a type of hem/edge profile with metal reinforcement, not as a material. It is not a brand name (although it sounds similar to Pirelli) but a common name in the rubber and engineering industry.
It is basically a U-profile with a steel core – it is used on the edges of sheet metal, doors, hoods and bodywork.
A typical PIRELI profile contains three layers:
Outer rubber
– can be EPDM, PVC, NBR, TPE, silicone (depending on application)
Metal reinforcement
– steel wires, steel tape, or perforated metal
– used to attach to the edge (grip)
Inner teeth / slats
– increase frictional force to keep the profile firmly seated
How does metal reinforcement work? the reinforcement bites into the sheet or edge when pressed, the profile does not bounce and holds without sticking, the shape is stable, the profile does not pull out or move during long-term use. It is the ideal solution for edges with a thickness of 0.8 – 5 mm (depending on the type of profile).

Versions

Material basis
The rubber profile with metal reinforcement is made of EPDM compact rubber 60, 70 °ShA, synthetic rubber, which is resistant to UV radiation, ozone, weathering, alkalis and low concentrations of acids and alcohol. Metal or wire reinforcement provides strength and durability to ensure the product withstands harsh conditions. Some variants are made of PVC material. The sealing/sealing surfaces are made of microporous - SPONGE EPDM rubber. The material base ensures that the product is reliable and has a long service life
