Silicone rubber gaskets (VMQ, FVMQ)

VMQ = Vinyl-Methyl-silicone Rubber

Main features of VMQ:
Temperature resistance: Approximately -60 °C to +200…230 °C
Softness and flexibility: Excellent even at very low temperatures
Chemical resistance: Good resistance to oxygen, ozone, UV, water
Non-toxic material: Suitable for food and medical applications (in special grades)

Disadvantages of VMQ
Weaker resistance to:

fuels and oils (diesel, petrol)
some solvents
mechanical strength lower than EPDM or FKM

Applications: food seals, medical products, lighting, electrical insulation, high temperature sealing.

FVMQ = Fluoro-Vinyl-Methyl-silicone Rubber (Fluorosilicone)
It is a silicone that has fluorinated side groups, giving it significantly better chemical resistance.

Main features of FVMQ
Temperature resistance: Typically -60 °C to +200 °C
Superior chemical resistance:
fuels (gasoline, diesel, aviation fuels)
oils
some aggressive chemicals
Stability in harsh environments (aerospace, military, automotive sector)

Disadvantages of FVMQ
high price (2-5× more expensive than VMQ)
mechanical strength only average
not as commonly available as conventional silicone

Applications: fuel systems, aerospace, military applications, seals for aggressive chemicals.

Description

The most common use is as a sealing element for resistance to high temperatures. This product group, depending on the material used, is used for its mechanical and physical properties as a sealant for luminaires, expansion joints and in other industries - automotive, mechanical, food, electrical and construction.

Properties

The seals are characterized by excellent weather and ozone resistance, high temperature resistance, very good physical-mechanical properties as well as permanent deformation, excellent water resistance, virtually no water absorption and can withstand temperatures ranging from -50 °C to +250 °C. We can now also offer resistance up to 300°C.

Versions

They are manufactured in several basic shapes, either as square, rectangle, circular gasket, intermediate or special shapes. The seals can also be produced as self-adhesive. We can also offer the compounds in FDA compliant or flame retardant according to ISO 45545.

Material basis

These seals can be made from several types of homogeneous and microporous mixtures and hardnesses - depending on the application conditions. The specific gravity ranges from 0.30 to 1.3 g/cm3 and in hardnesses from 20 to 80 °ShA. In addition to standard materials for various demanding applications, we can also produce peroxide mixtures (sulphur-free), flame retardant profiles in accordance with (NF F 16-101, ISO 45545), products in accordance with TL1010 and FMVSS 302, waterproofing materials in accordance with EN681, seals for flood walls, automotive seals in accordance with VW 2.8.1.
